2018 Travelers Championship First Round Leader Bets
Despite arriving the week after a major championship, the Travelers has assembled a quality field with five of the Worlds Top-10 players ready to do battle at TPC River Highlands. A rare short course measuring just 6,884 yards will greet the players, and it should be a golf course that isn’t just suited to one model of player. With no significant difference in weather expected between the morning and afternoon on Thursday, I haven’t placed much importance on tee times this week.
Chesson Hadley did next to nothing at last weeks U.S. Open; however he may be worth giving another chance to this week. Hadley is T2 for sub-par rounds this season, eight for par four birdies or better which is significant with 12 par 4’s at TPC River Highlands, and first for total birdies. At 70/1 I’ll take another shot on Hadley this week.
Beau Hossler is enjoying an excellent 2018, and the youngster has been particularly useful in opening rounds this year. Hossler sits third this season for round one scoring average (69.10), and he is a very streaky player with the ability to get hot on the golf course. Hossler ranks T2 for sub-par rounds this season with a total of 21, and second for total birdies. 80/1 looks value for Hossler to start well on Thursday.
Aaron Baddeley isn’t having a great season, but there is enough optimism to be taken from his weekend at Shinnecock Hills. Baddeley gained 7.2 strokes with his approach shots over the weekend, and with his iron play sharp he has the potential to get off to a fast start and is worth a punt at 125/1.
First Round Leader:
• Chesson Hadley 70/1
• Beau Hossler 80/1
• Aaron Baddeley 125/1
