2018 Wyndham Championship First Round Leader Bets

After the drama of last weekend, the Wyndham Championship doesn’t exactly set the pulses racing this week. Sedgefield Country Club will host the event once more, and it’s a golf course that is going to give up plenty of birdies this week. Wedge play and a hot putter are what are going to be needed this week, and hopefully I’ve found three men that can provide just that in round one action.

Ryan Armour – 19th in round one scoring average this season, Armour comes into this event off the back of three missed cuts. Not ideal I must admit, but this week’s Wyndham Championship has a very weak field, and Armour has been hitting the ball recently better than his results have shown. Over his previous 24 rounds, Armour sits 17th in strokes gained approaching the green and 20th in ball striking. While over his previous 12 rounds, Armour ranks fourth in this week’s field for proximity to the hole.

David Hearn – Having made four of his previous five cuts, Hearn comes to Greensboro during his best spell of 2018. His best result in this period was a T16 finish at the John Deere Classic, where he got off to a fast start. At 150/1 this week to be round one leader, Hearn looks to offer plenty of value to get off to another quick start. The most encouraging sign that the Canadian represents value is that he leads this week’s field in proximity to the hole over his last 12 rounds.

Kyle Thompson – Finally, at massive odds, I’ll be taking a chance on Kyle Thompson to perform well in round one this week. Thompson has missed four of his last five cuts, but he ranks seventh in proximity to the hole over his previous 12 rounds, which suggests that he just hasn’t been capitalising on his chances. At 300/1, it’s worth taking a shot on Thompson in the hope that he can take advantage of his close approach play on day one.
