2019 Sony Open PGA OAD Picks
We are back!!!!! After a few months off the guys are back with their weekly PGA OAD picks. Bubba took it down last year, but it was a fun run throughout the year and hopefully we can bring more winners. Kevin, Jesse and Rob will be back as well to try and take their chance at the top. If 4 picks a week weren’t enough, we’ll be welcomed by another sharp PGA picker in Chet (@AtomicBets). With now 5 very knowledgeable PGA guys this season lines up to be a very fun competition with a chance to bring a lot of winners to the followers.
The PGA OAD season kicks off in Hawaii, why wouldn’t you want to kick things off in Hawaii? This week they’ll be at the Wailea Country Club in Honolulu for the Sony Open. We have our first 144 player field in quite some time with a cut after 2 rounds with the top 70 and ties. With all the players in the pool, let’s see who the guys start the season with in the 2019 Sony Open PGA OAD Picks.
Kevin (@KevinsDelight)– Last week the Sentry TOC kicked off most Fantasy Golf seasons and damn was it fun. Congrats to X on a big win at Kapalua. He helped fill my pockets with a course record tying final round.
This week we kick off One and Done with Gups Corner. A season long golf pool where you pick 1 player each week and try to accumulate as much prize $ as possible. Once you use a player you can’t use them again later in the year! So choose wisely, make cuts, win 5-7 events during the course of the season, and make a nice payday come after the TOUR Championship.
I just opened my document from last year and saw I was on Russell Henley but was eyeing Jimmy Walker and Brian Harman. All players I looked at again this year. Typically I like to take someone who played the week before at TOC. So this has me looking at KIZZIRE (defending champ), Leishman, and Sneds as he’s a tremendous wind player…there are plenty of great options this week but I’m going with the big Australian. Leishman is my pick at Sony.
Best of luck!!!
Chet (@AtomicBets)- Justin Thomas
I’m taking the chalk this week. JT was 1st in SG: T2G and SG: Approach last week in the Tournament of Champions. Has won the Sony Open previously. A lot of unknowns this early in the season but I’m confident JT performs a whole lot better than his Crimson Tide did on Monday night!
Jesse (@DFSGolfGods)– Full disclosure: I have 3 entries in the GC OAD this year. I ended up adding 2 late because of the insane amount of entries. So for this writeup weekly I will be including my first entry @DFSGolfGods on there. We run a yearly total on here so gotta be fair to all the other guys on here. This week I will be going Gary Woodland. It is way to hard to avoid the hot golfer at this point in the season, with not much to go off of. Gary didn’t get the W last week, but his form and course history combo make it impossible for me to pass up this early in the season.
Bubba (@bdentrek)– Last year was my first season participating in a PGA OAD contest and it was a blast. One thing I learned, at least in my opinion, I need to not be scared to use the big guys early and can always get cute with picks later on. With that be said, I’ll be rolling with Justin Thomas this week. Thomas has the course record at the Sony Open and is also a previous winner, so one would say the course history narrative is strong. He also was one of the best tee 2 green last week at the Sentry, but couldn’t putt consistently. I don’t see the putter letting him down again and I expect JT to finish Top 5 at worst, but I really think he wins this weekend in Hawaii.
Rob (@alldayevery365)- Fresh landscapes and all the Mark Rolfing Hawaii talk your heart can handle means golf is back. This field is surprisingly high in quality meaning I have no interest in using a big name. Too early in the season, and the purse isn’t big enough so we’re going back to a veteran that showed signs of life again later in 2018: Jimmy Walker. Compliments to Justin Ray and his stats, JDub is -54 in the last five Sony’s including TWO MCs. At 90/1, he’s also a great long shot option if you’re into that type of thing.
