Rounding out the 2017 year, and heading for a new money year in 2018! I really hope everyone has enjoyed their Christmas holiday, and are back and ready to take down a GPP on this fine Wednesday! We have a ten game slate to scour about, so let’s get crackin’…
Kyrie Irving ($8,500)– with most gravitating to Russ tonight, I’ll take the cheaper route with Irving here. Let’s begin with the fact that CHA has allowed the MOST FPs to opposing PGs on average over their last 5 games by a 17.9 FP average margin in that span, and let’s parlay that with Kyrie’s massive 31.3 usage rate on the road, his 51 FG%, 45% 3-pt, 62 TS%, and phenomenal 120 ORtg. He is also averaging 33.9 mins per game on the road, with a modest line of 26.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, and 5.0 apg. Needless to say, Kyrie is a fantastic option on tonight’s slate, and a much more fair price tag.
Jerian Grant ($3,900)– In tournaments you have to gamble a little, you know, risk it for the biscuit, can’t win if you don’t spin a bit, so with that said I have a gut, along with some factual feelings on Grant tonight. Let’s start with CHI being on a B2B where Dunn played 34 mins last night to Grants 14. I hate going off patterns but this one has been consistent for at least the last 8-10 games. You can look at his log and see this as well, Grant plays 13-14 mins, and then follows it with 23-24 mins, and has done this for a while. With bulls being on B2B, it makes me think he will see the 23-24 min range tonight against a decently mid-tier defensive NY backcourt. Grant does carry a pretty admirable 20.1 usage rate at home, while also averaging 23.3 mins per game, 9.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, and 4.8 apg. In their last meeting, grant played a lonely 18 mins, but was very efficient putting up 6 points, 2 boards, 9 dimes, and 2 steals.
Demar DeRozan ($8,200)– This is a smash spot for DeRozan here after pretty much dropping the ball last night in a game he played very poorly in (23 FPs, 8 pts, 3 reb, 5 asst, 2 stl on 3-16 from the field and 0-2 from behind the arc). So, to say a bounce-back game is clearly evident here is an understatement. OKC has allowed the MOST FPs on average to opposing SGs over their last 5 games, even though this was partly due to Roberson sitting, but nonetheless, I still like the spot. DeRozan carries a 29.7 usage rate on the road and plays a whopping 34.8 mins per game on average in his travels as well, so I believe I’ll be looking at him tonight.
Buddy Hield ($5,000)– Most will write Buddy off after only seeing 18 mins on the floor last night, but, it was a blow-out and he didn’t have any reason to be out there anymore now that he has the starting SG role. I really like the upside that Buddy has tonight against this same Cavs team he lit up for 34 fantasy points in CLE earlier this season. We know CLE is bad against the SG spot defensively and that’s why they have allowed the 2nd most FPs on average to them over the season so far, and the 4th most on average over their last 5. I think a ton of folks will be looking at Clarkson in this salary range, and for good reason, but for the game flow and true upside potential for tournies, give me Buddy. Not to mention, Hield is hoisting a very modest 25.3 usage % at home, averaging 15 ppg, 3.7 rpg, and 1.3 apg on an average of 24.3 mins per game.
LBJ ($11,700)– No reason to fade LeBron tonight after CLE took the L to the Warriors on Christmas Day, not to mention LeBron did not play that well. Besides his 40 FP game on Christmas, LeBron has notched over 60 FPs in his prior 3 road contests, and let’s mention his 69.8 FP performance against the Kings at home earlier this season. With a 31.3 usage rate on the road, pretty much averaging a triple-double as well, no need to fade LBJ tonight, as I think there’s value around to fit him.
Ersan Illysova ($4,800)– I will take a starting PF under $5k tonight in the 2nd highest totaled game on the board tonight with WAS/ATL. WAS has allowed over 100 ppg to opposing teams in their last 4 road games, and ATL hopefully can contend tonight. Ersan has been playing well over his last two games putting up 30.8 and 36.8 FPs. While also hitting over 60% from the field going 7 of 9 in one and 7 for 10 in the other, in route to over 20 real points in both as well. Seeing plenty of floor time as he has seen over 30 mins in 4 of his last 5. Useful info, against the East (11 games) this season, Ersan carries a 19.5 usage%, 25.6 mins per game, 11.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 1.2 apg. Hopefully, he can continue his hot shooting tonight at home, and it helps that WAS has allowed the 2nd most FPs on average to the PF spot over their last 5 contests.
Kristaps Porzingis ($8,600)– Yess, there are two above Staps that Most will be on other than LBJ and Cousins (who I’m using at C), you have KD and AD that should gobble up some ownership at the PF/F spot. I’m going to go with Kristaps for ownership, and his HIGHEST usage rate for the F spot at 33.9% on the season. Chicago has allowed the 8th most FPs on average to the spot over their last 5, and 4th most on average over the span of the season. On the road this season, zing has averaged 32 mins per game, 24.1 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.2 apg, and 1.2 bpg. I’ll have some Staps tonight traveling to face the bulls who are on a B2B.
Serge Ibaka ($5,900)– Here’s a classic revenge narrative as Serge returns to OKC where he played for 6 years in the beginning of his career. Serge brings in a modest 20.2 usage rate in his road travels, while averaging a smidge over 28 mins per game. He has accumulated 30 or more FPs in 5 of his last 6 road contests. Some useless info, Serge against the West Conf: 19.5 usage %, 15.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 0.6 apg, 1.4 bpg. Wait, there’s moorrreee, shooting 53% from the field, 40% from 3-land, a hefty 63.4 TS%, and 118 ORtg on the road as well. Feel Serge has very nice value on tonight’s slate going back to OKC.
Boogie Cousins ($11,500)– Boogie has been getting it done lately, and AD has been kinda left in the shadows. Which means AD goes for 30/20/7 tonight. Either way, I’m going with Boogie who carries the highest usage rate (34.5%) for the C spot, at home vs the Nets who are allowing the 3rd most FPs to opposing Cs over their last 5 games by a 8.9 FP margin, and not to mention he has amassed 53 or more FPs in 4 of his last 5 home clashes.
Steven Adams ($5,700)– Adams has been sneaky good at home this season, and not just at home, he’s been really good period. 6 of his last 8 games at home though, have resulted in 34 FPs or better. Toronto has allowed the MOST FPs on average to the C spot over their last 5 contests. To shine a bit more light on how good Adams has been, he’s hitting buckets at a 71 FG% clip at home, averaging 15.2 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.2 apg, and 1.3 bpg. His usage rate is nothing to write home about, but he stays fair cheap in the mid-tier price range in the $5-$6k range. Another amazing feat, Adams holds a 142 ORtg, which is monstrous, and has to be probably top 5 highest.
